How to overcome weak voice? Yesterday, I got one mail from one of my subscribers & he was really concerned about his voice. His question was “How did Radio Jockeys train to enhance their voice and pronunciation skills? I observed that people don’t feel interested when I speak something. No matter how important things I am saying, I cannot hook them. I think it’s because I have a thin voice (Male 24yr) and when I speak I don’t say words clearly. I hear the radio every day and I want to speak like a radio jockey. They have a strong and confident voice, I would like to develop this such voice in me. I know RJ does some special vocal exercise to make an impressive voice but I couldn’t find it. It’s affecting my life in every way because communication is the most important part of our life”
I felt really bad about this guy because somehow I started to relate to him. a few years ago, even I used to get nervous while speaking front of people. My voice never used to come out whenever I had speak front of people. So I know how does it feel when someone with strong voice takes your place & make you feel embarrassed. But I decided to improve my self rather than cribbing.
So, here I am sharing my personal tips on how to overcome weak voice & gain confidence
Start speaking with yourself :
You feel bit awkward first time but this really helps. I used to stand front of my mirror & I used to talk nonsense 😉 So, Stand front of the mirror and speak about one topic you are comfortable with. You feel awkward & embarrassing while doing this first time but you’re embarrassment & awkwardness is sign that you are coming out from your box, you are pushing your self & learning new things. So feeling embarrassing or awkwardness is a good thing at least for a few days. So go ahead & start speaking. It will help you to built confidence in your voice & you will also overcome the stage-fear.
Practice vowels loudly:
Start speaking vowels A, E, I, O, U ( अ, आ, इ, ई, उ, ऊ, ए, ऐ, अं, अ: in Hindi ), This will help you to open your mouth while speaking so that you spk loudly & clearly. Most of this time we never open our mouth while speaking which results of mumbling. This exercises will help you to open the mouth so that you can project your voice and speak clearly. Go slow while practicing it.
I know you are breathing but are you breathing correctly? Studies show that 100 out 98 people don’t breath correctly & because of that, they couldn’t project their voice. They have to settle with their shallow and weak voice because of their wrong breathing style.
So, if you want to overcome from your thin voice, you have to start taking breathing from your diaphragm. If you don’t know what I am talking you can refer my video.
Voice & Breathing Exercises:
As we do exercises to keep ourself fit & healthy likewise, we have to perform few voice and breathing exercises to improve and to maintain our voice. Every exercise has its own advantages and each exercise will improve your vocal tone and give your rich and deep voice. I do few exercises which helped me a lot to improve my voice quality & I am happy to share with you all via a given videos.
Starts reading books or newspaper loudly:
Start reading new papers or books loudly and clearly every day. When you speak loud, you tend to take deep breathing and because of that, your voice gets projection and loudness. This also helps you gain confidence & you can easily speak front of people.
